Much Done, But Still So Much To Do

We got down fairly early last night and were up at 6:30 this morning. The cooks served scrambled eggs, refried beans, cheese, and fruit for breakfast. We always have the option of Honey Nut Cheerios if we’d prefer. And we go through plenty of coffee.

We had several work crews this morning. Gift bag delivery started as soon as Juan could round up the little kids and their mothers. They had to drive to the other side of the ravine to reach them so it took a bit longer. That crew was then switched out for another delivery before noon.

Tom’s crew continued to work on the garden, but the agricultural military were unable to come today because they lacked a vehicle. That seems to happen frequently with the military here. So, they filled all the “planters” with fertilized soil, and it will now have to wait until the military brings the seedlings. Marta also has to bring the seeds for the rest.

Juan translated for the gift bag delivery crew in the morning, so he had to wait until the afternoon to begin roofing. Thus, after our lunch of fried chicken, mashed potatoes, cucumbers, and tomatoes – and a mandatory siesta – the group headed to the work site.

John’s crew went back to painting the insides of the houses in preparation of roofing. Before they could get too far, though, we were all called together for the I. R. S (International Roofing Society) swearing in ceremony. Once that was completed, everyone could go back to work.

The missioners are working hard so we leave here with all projects completed. Though we have done so much, we still have to deliver six gift bags, paint the inside of the middle house and all the outsides, hang the doors on one house, one house needs a roof, plant the seeds and seedlings in the garden, distribute the pillow case dresses & Shoes That Grow, and maybe a couple of things I’m forgetting. And even though that sounds like a lot, we have probably done that or more already. Hard to believe!

Tomorrow we’ll head to the Sisters of Charity to visit the orphanage/malnutrition/senior home in Tegucigalpa. Our hope is to feed the children and perhaps play with them for a bit before returning to the compound to work.

Our time is quickly drawing to a close. We’ll keep you posted on our progress.

  1. Good morning! Wow, it is more than apparent that Jesus is always there in your faces and in the faces of the children! It looks like you had a great day of lots of interactions with the kids. Back to reality (and school) today! I am glad that it is already Tuesday but feels like Monday. It is pretty quiet around here Tom and Meredith, I am much more ready for you to be home than I am sure you are. I prayed the Chaplet of Divine Mercy for all of you yesterday and felt a tremendous peace. I pray that he leads you, watches over you, and continues to touch your hearts through the people you are serving. Looking forward to another day of sun and things continuing to dry out here. At least in our area things are getting back to normal and there is not so much water where it should not be. Take care and enjoy whatever God puts in front of you today. Love and prayers, Laurie (Mrs.)Kellen
