As our days are waning, we are soaking in every moment we have left. Today was a day to finish many projects. We completed our gift bag deliveries to many families who were very grateful for the generosity of everyone who has supported Gehlen Mission Honduras. All that you gave as donations are welcomed with open arms and happy hearts!
We also completed painting on the houses as well as electrical work. Some of the girls added accents to the exterior, which were the envy of the neighborhood.
We also distributed bags to those who have helped us throughout the last week. Though the bags are not x- large, our gratitude is!
The students also had a presentation with some Honduran college students. The Hondurans practiced their English and our students practiced Spanish, explaining our mission.
We started organizing tools to get ready for our return. All are starting to feel many emotions as the finish line nears. While students are ready to see all of you back home, they are well aware of the friendships they have made and how much they will miss those connections!
We ended the evening with outdoor junta and evening mass. It was a beautiful cool night. You probably are laughing at that since we know it was a bit chilly, to say the least, back in good old NW Iowa!
Please keep sending prayers for the team as they finish their work as the hands of God. We are also loving the comments you all are making; it is a highlight of the night!

Michelle DeLarm I have enjoyed this trip so much. We built 3 homes which took 5 days to build and paint. I enjoyed going on Sunday to the Basilica and shopping for souvenirs. I loved it when the children came up to say Hola( means Hi). The children were so friendly. All the Hondurans were so grateful for all we have done for them. We were protected by the military men each day that we worked. I’ll be going on a few more trips. I know helping these people is very important.
I've enjoyed reading this blog. You all are doing wonderful work. Hello to Ryan Livermore!
ReplyDeleteLove to see the progress and the pictures. Looks like all are enjoying the trip. Mack don't get any ideas to pack the puppy in your bag and bring it home like you did with the cat. Love and miss you Steve and McKenzie. Mom and Alyssa
ReplyDeleteHappy to hear that everyone is practicing their Spanish and I hope that everyone continues to use it when they get back here. (yes we have lots of people in Northwest Iowa that only speak Spanish- including immigrants from Honduras, Guatemala, El Salvador, and Nicaragua. Good to see Steve Mousel with a smile. Enjoy your time and yes Virginia, I will try to remember to bring the stank pink pillow with me to pick you up.
ReplyDeleteIt is awesome to see the progress. Enjoy your remaining time and safe travels back. Emma - I am glad to see you learned to caulk. I might have a few projects lined up for you when you get home... Looking forward to seeing you Friday night.
ReplyDeleteAll I can say is the smiles of both the families and children and the missioners speak volumes! It just melts my heart! You all have done incredibly amazing work on your mission trip! We are all so proud of you and can’t wait to hear all the stories!
ReplyDeleteTrevor - I haven’t seen a better smile! You make me so proud and I can’t wait to hear about your experience! See you soon with pizza and a charged phone!
Joe - 2 more sleeps!! As always your smile just melts me and one of my favorite pictures is of you putting one of Jenna’s homemade bracelets on one of the children! What an amazing experience for you and Trevor! Can’t wait to have you both safely back home! Enjoy these last few days making lasting memories! Love you both!
Love seeing all the pictures and we are all excited to have Chris and Jack back on the farm! But I know how hard it is to say goodbye! Cherish these last couple of days and do not waste any of your time. Spend as much time as you can with the people, children and each other. "I will give you a new heart and put a new spirit within you; I will take the heart of stone out of your flesh and give you a heart of flesh." (Ezekial 36:26) God has given this blessing to you all! It may be hard but do not ever forget the blessing God has given you on this journey! Sending prayers!
