Another great day in the books for GCMH 2024. We enjoyed breakfast this morning and hit the
road for the city. We arrived to the Basilica de Suyapa early enough to walk
the grounds, visit the old church, and light a candle for our loved ones.
Father Doug celebrated Mass for us and it was a wonderful experience
for us all! He said Mass in Spanish and
we were welcomed with open arms. It was
interesting for all to experience the differences and similarities between the Masses
at home and the one here. After Mass, we
further explored the Basilica and viewed the statue of the Virgin of Suyapa as well
as the wall of miracles. After a brief opportunity to visit the gift shop, we
were off for the Valley of the Angels.
It was a beautiful drive through the mountains. It is amazing to see the change in terrain so
close to where we ‘live’. I say this as
we all have commented how quickly this space has become comfortable for us to
return to after our long days.
We enjoyed a delicious burger with fries at a restaurant that
served our crew. We were overlooking the
valley and the weather was beautiful.
Following lunch, we walked a few blocks to do some shopping and get ice
cream.
Though it was a relaxing day, it was a tiring one. We returned for supper, and then junta with
lots of laughs and a fierce Rock, Paper, Scissors Tournament with a winner in
Shayla and second place to Mrs. Harpenau. We found a giant dry erase board and surprised
the kids with the first round of March madness brackets, some played along and
we made a team bracket.
Headed to bed soon, we have a long day ahead tomorrow,
praying for shade and a breeze!
Thanks again to all who are following along, it is great to
hear from you!
Hello Alex-It looks like you had a wonderful weekend! The church looked absolutely beautiful!! I did our usual routine and went to visit Grandma and Grandpa Arens yesterday afternoon. I shared all the pictures, Grandpa shed a tear or two and Grandma was able to pick you out of several pictures, she had a huge smile. Grace missed you, she was forced to have to talk to just us adults. Kelly and I made a supper that you would have loved, rueben casserole, in honor of St. Patricks Day. Continue to do God's work and we cannot wait to see you on Friday. Counting down, 4 more sleeps until you are home. We love you!
ReplyDeleteDawson it looks like you have some blisters on your heels. Hmmm maybe I did know what I was talking about and you should have listened to me. I'll wait to tell you I told you so in person. Keep working hard and soaking in every minute these next few days will fly by faster than you can imagine.
ReplyDeleteHello Missioners! This is Mrs. Hunt writing today. I subbed for Mrs. Ebert today. School just isn't the same without you here as students; love having you all in class with your great insights and thought provoking questions. I hope kids learned something today from their one language proficient sub.
ReplyDeleteMrs. Ebert, your students were very good and are working hard on their projects. I had to ask a student to translate the large black Spanish quote on your wall. It was " El espiritu de Dios esta en este lugar" They said it means "The spirit of God is in this place." There are no truer words said about your school!!
