Sticking Close to Home

Today we focused on projects close to the school.  With no classes today, it is a great opportunity to work on assembling our 40 beds.  We also put together the gift bags that were filled with the donations collected over the past year.  We include clothing, shoes, hygiene items, toys, and other things.  We ‘adopt’ a grade every year to make a bag for the family of each of the students in that grade.  This year, we have third grade for our focus.  We also pack bags for every family receiving a house as well as all the amazing people who help us along our way like the military. Some even got to make tortillas with our cooks today.

It is warm today with less wind than we have had so it was nice to have a place to relax. We were able to get out of the sun and work at a slower pace.

This afternoon, a small walking fieldtrip for ‘Coca en la bolsa’ which translates quite simply to Coke in a bag.  In Honduras, it is not uncommon to see people walking around with water or soda in a plastic baggie, drinking right from it.  With a small modification of an adding a straw, we are enjoying this cold treat!

Tonight, we celebrated mass together in English since tomorrow we will have mass again at the Basilica de Suyapa in Tegucigalpa.  We will have much more on that tomorrow.

We closed with a great Junta meeting. We are grateful for the opportunity to be together and grow together.

  2. I look forward to checking out this blog and Facebook daily to see all the good you guys are doing. Love that you are working hard but also have time to experience the culture. Kylie-- I am so proud of you and this journey you are on. I know you were looking forward to handing out the soccer balls and playing with them- I'm sure the children are enjoying your skills. :) Iowa State won the BIG 12 tournament last night, so maybe you can teach the kids to say Go Cyclones!! Continued prayers for all of you.

  3. It looks like everyone is working so hard. Seeing your updates and smiling faces is the highlight of my day. Dawson - Dylan made it back from spring break and Jayden left today to go back to school. She was sad that you weren't here to fill her car with gas for her. The house will be so quiet until you get home. Your golf balls are here, but this week is going to be too cold to golf anyway, so you aren't missing much there. Love you and miss you!

  4. Thanks for the continued updates of the work you are all doing. We look forward to the pictures everyday.

Cole, Dad misses having someone in the house to beat in ping pong, bags, and frisbee golf. It is quiet without you here, but we are so proud of you for being the hands and feet of Jesus in Honduras. Megan, the kids, and I went to Denison on Saturday to see Grandma. She says "hi". Enjoy the 90 degree weather because you may be greeted with temps in the 30's with chances of snow/frozen mix Saturday through Tuesday. Sounds like track season!! We love you and can't wait to hear your stories. Oh yeah, Zoey misses you too!

Happy St. Patrick's Day! I hope you are all wearing green today.

  5. We are enjoying reading the updates and seeing the pictures of your hard work and connection with others. Enjoy the sun and warm weather as it is cold and windy in Iowa today. We had a few snow flurries this morning, but thankfully it did not last long. We have ten baby calves now, and they are doing well. Today the boys went to a Musketeer's game, and they won. We are happy to report the Vikings are making some good trade decisions. Nolan, I am supposed to tell you that Landon is moving into your room. We look forward to reading more posts about your journey and seeing you later this week. Love you!

  6. Greetings to all! Thanks for the continued updates and photos. It has certainly made this much easier for us at home! Love the hard work you are doing while maintaining those awesome smiles. McKenna - did we pack enough food? Sounds like you have had some good meals already. Miss seeing you run in and out of the house several times a day! LOL! Have fun! Love you! Mom

  7. Looks like you continue to do amazing work. Love seeing all the big smiles.
Addie - your dog is missing you along with us...I have caught her several times going downstairs to your room then quickly coming back up when she can not find you. We have some new editions to the farm. Dad planned to get 6 baby chicks but somehow him and Will returned home with 22. Will has named 3 of them so far - Little Timmy, Bob, and Lexi. Lexi wanted one named after her so Will named the naughtiest one after her...so 19 left to name. Will also said to tell you he misses you. Hope you all are well. Love you!!!
